Aquatic Certification Classes

 

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Challenge Course - This course is for people who have been previously certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and need to recertify.  Instructors will be present to test students’ skills to recertify them.  This course covers adult, infant, & child CPR, 2-rescuer CPR, Adult and Child AED, BVM and resuscitation masks.  Students may also challenge the Oxygen Administration course at this time.  Current books can be purchased from the Greater Somerset County Red Cross (908) 725 - 2217. 

Please review all material prior to class time.

Please Note: All students must have their own resuscitation mask to participate!

 

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course - The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program teaches lifeguards the skills and knowledge necessary to keep patrons of aquatic facilities safe in and around the water.  This program includes the lifeguard training course with aquatic specific First Aid and CPR.  The course fee includes the book and a resuscitation mask.  Students must show proof they will be 15 by the last scheduled day of the course. No exceptions will be made.  Attendance at all classes is required for certification.  A $15 non-refundable deposit is required to register, and the balance is due after successful completion of the pretest.

Pretest:  Students must swim 300 y/m continuously as follows – 100 y/m front crawl; 100 y/m breaststroke; 100 y/m front crawl or breaststroke.  Additionally students must swim 20 y/m., submerge 7 – 10 ft., retrieve a ten-pound brick, and swim 20 y/m. carrying the brick in both hands and exit the pool over the edge in less than 1minute 40 seconds.

 

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Challenge Course - This challenge course is for students previously certified in lifeguarding, who wish to recertify.  This program includes the lifeguard training course with aquatic specific First Aid and CPR.  Students must bring a resuscitation mask to class. All students must show proof of passing a lifeguard program during the previous 4 years. A $15 non-refundable deposit is required to register for the pretest.  The remaining balance is due after completing the pretest.  Please review all material prior to class time.

Water Safety Instructor Course - The purpose of the Water Safety Instructor Course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross learn to swim, and water safety courses.  Upon completion, students will be able to teach Learn to Swim levels 1 – 6, the Parent Child aquatic program, and Basic Water Safety.  Students will also have the tools necessary to give aquatic safety presentations.  A $30 non-refundable deposit is required to register, and the balance is required upon successful completion of the pretest.

Prerequisites  1. Show proof that Instructor Candidate will be at least 16 years old by the last day of the course.

                     2.  Be able to swim front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, some butterfly,

                         tread water, dive, and swim   underwater.

                     3. Show successful completion of the ARC FIT course.   (FIT course offered at no extra charge on Sun. May 15th.)

SCUBA DIVING  - Open Water Diver Certification (4 week class) 

Bridgewater Family YMCA

This Open Water Diver class is an entry level certification program that is your ticket to scuba diving.  The program is sanctioned by PADI, the largest and most recognized certifying agency in the world, through a combination of academic work and in-water skills sessions.  You will learn how to become a safe, confident, and capable scuba diver.  You will also learn how much fun it is to experience the wonder and beauty of the underwater world.  Instruction will be provided by Underwater Adventures Dive Center, 973-258-1300.   Fee includes program materials.

Requirements:

  •          Must be at least 10 years of age
  •          Be in overall good health
  •          Have basic swimming proficiency and be comfortable in the water  

 

American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course (1 day class)

Bridgewater Family YMCA

The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course is to provide

individuals, ages 11 to 15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe

and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians.

This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism;

basic care; safety and safe play; and first aid.  Prerequisites:  None
