TEEN PROGRAMS

Seventh Grade

Seventh grade has proven to be an important time for children to continue to remain active and gain the life-long fitness practices that will help them develop healthy habits. Kids in 7th grade begin to formulate habits that continue into adulthood. The 7th Grade MEMBERSHIP will allow Hillsborough School District 7th graders the opportunity to strengthen their behaviors by remaining active, staying fit, gaining a better understanding of nutrition and the importance of continuing these habits into their adult lives.

The Hillsborough YMCA will be offering various strength training and cardiovascular classes that will help our 7th graders achieve a healthier lifestyle.  Schedule of classes is TBD.

TEEN ZONE

This new program, for teens in 7th - 11th grade, was made possible through a grant by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders and co-sponsored by the Hillsborough Youth Commission and the Hillsborough Family YMCA.

The goal of the Hillsborough Youth Commission and Hillsborough Family YMCA is to increase teen's positive self image by providing opportunities for health and wellness programs that will aid in fighting childhood obesity.   The health and wellness opportunities would include Zumba and Spinning classes, organized games, as well as volleyball, swimming and basketball.

While at the Teen Zone, youth will have clear standards and rules for acceptable behavior and will benefit from the mentoring of caring, supportive adults.   It is the hope with everyone involved, that teens will benefit from increased social and decision making skills, ultimately leading to an increase in self esteem.

This "drop-in" program will be held Saturdays, 7:00-10:00pm beginning October 2011.

Teen Zone fees:   $3 per visit
